The List
This song is about the deceptive and destructive practice of psychiatry. It is named The List to emphasize the gross amount of labels dreamed up to describe mental disorders, as define in the psychiatrist’s bible reference, DSM. The name doubles as a depiction of the even longer list of psychotropic drugs used to “treat” such made up mental disorders.
Live Performances
The computerized vocals in The List are hard for most people to understand, but I always felt its message was important. That instantly gave me an idea for a skit (I always felt a performance should include something interesting to watch). Rather than play an instrument I presented the lyrics (in realtime) on 8.5″ x 11″ signs. To add further implication (that people are often unaware of it) and to further attract attention I wore a blindfold. (More about that on this Instagram post »)
Lyrics
Put drugs in your food ’til you feel yourself sinking.
And you don’t know why, but you lose yourself thinking.
Ask us for help and we’ll give you a cute little pill.
We’ve even got chewable tablets if your kids are “ill”.
Convince you we need fundings to further research the brain.
Use the funds to kill animals and make the sane go insane.
We specialize in making you more submittable.
Because we want you under our thumb. You are so pitiful.
Drug the elderly to kill them all off quicker.
Try our new stress relief pill and get a free bumper sticker.
Commission your doctor to sell you drugs to use.
If anyone can sell you drugs it’s the doctor you choose.

Cut your drug supply in the middle of your prescription.
Sorry, we can’t sell you those you’re on restriction.
Maybe you can buy them under the table.
Lose the prescription, but keep the addiction and the label.
