At several points in the history of the US, the bankers convinced Congress to adopt their private banking services. First was the Bank of North America, named in the same fashion as the Bank of England. This lasted for some time, then had to be shut down. After further coercion, it essentially reopened but under a different name, the Second Bank of the United States. Elected for two consecutive terms, Andrew Jackson put an end to this second central bank. He was the only president ever to pay off the national debt.
Some of our presidents were sharp enough to understand the dangers in moving the country’s monetary control over to the debt-based currency so heavily pushed by the private bankers. Abraham Lincoln was forced to accept loans from the bankers to fund the civil war, a decision which he later admitted to as being the greatest mistake in his presidency.
In 1913, Congress handed our monetary control over to a new privately owned bank, cleverly named the Federal Reserve. Today, we continue to borrow money from the Federal Reserve, driving us deeper and deeper into debt and our economy is suffering drastically because of it.
