What’s Up with these Petition Websites Anyway?

Call me a sceptic, but could it be that some of these petition websites were established to encourage more law enforcement (in a world that already has too much law enforcement)?

I recently unsubscribed to Change.org emails (aside from those emails directly addressing my involvement, like petitions I already signed) and naturally, they wanted my feedback, “Tell us why you’re leaving (optional).” So I put some thought into it and realized that most of the petitions I see propose more laws and more penalties (at least from my observations of Change.org). More laws—what does that sound like? Who is that going to benefit?

Anyway, we need to be alert to the consequences of the new petitions being started up every day. Don’t be quick to sign the ones that take rights away. Even if they sound positive, they can be very tricky.
